Frequently Asked Questions

Science Behind COVID-19
INFORMATION ON THE COVID-19 TRACKING MAP

How can my child be successful in your class?
Middle School can be overwhelming for sixth graders under normal conditions. As we transition to an entirely virtual environment, students may feel additional pressure. Over time they will adjust to the rigorous schedule and expectations. A student's ability to SELF MOTIVATE and FOCUS is key to success in my science class and beyond. Your child must maintain GOOD CLASS NOTES and keep track of assignment DUE DATES.

What should my child do if he/she is can not attend a live class session?
Students who cannot attend a live meeting should reach out to me via email (vmurphy@wcpss.net) and check the class CANVAS LEARNING SYSTEM for missed ANNOUNCEMENTS and ASSIGNMENTS.

Where can my child find helpful resources for science?
This website has several helpful electronic resources located under the helpful links tab and the student tab.  I recommend students become familiar with the links and resources.

How often do you assign homework?
I usually assign homework a minimum of three times a week. However, due to our new learning environment, this requirement will look very different in the virtual world. We will have project-based assignments that will replace the typical homework (20 minutes review) assignment.
We will discuss this further as the year progresses.

How often do you update grades?
You should check your child's PowerSchool account weekly. Parents will receive a weekly update via the CANVAS learning system.

How often do you update this site?
I will update this site weekly usually Monday evenings after 6 pm.
